EARLY YEARS ADDITIONAL LEARNING NEEDS TRAINING EVENT 1

Outline

You are invited to attend a FREE all day training event for children with Additional Learning Needs from birth to five years. You will have the opportunity to attend presentations and workshops from a range of providers. This training is provided in partnership with Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan from Health, Education, Social Care and the Third Sector.

Description

Morning Session: Attend All Presentations
Presentation 1: The Integrated Pathway for Early Years children (birth to five years) with Additional Learning Needs (Cardiff & the Vale)

Presentation 2: The 30 hour Childcare Offer supporting ALN (Cardiff & the Vale)

Presentation 3: Effective Inclusion in the Early Years- Early Identification Including the Graduated Response (Specialist Teacher)

Afternoon Session: Choose One to Attend:
  • Understanding Sensory Differences (Occupational Therapist)
Gain an overview of the role of the Occupational Therapist and an understanding of how sensory/motor differences can impact a child’s participation at home and school.

  • Developing Speech & Language Skills Using WellComm (Specialist Teacher)
This workshop aims to offer 10 new settings who provide the 30 hour childcare offer the opportunity to embed WellComm into their practice. WellComm is a speech and language screening tool that enables early years practitioners to identify speech and language needs and provide appropriate intervention. Each setting will receive the complete WellComm Toolkit.

  • The Importance of Messy Play (Portage)
Explore the benefits of messy/ sensory play for children with ALN in the early years and how it can be used to support children with feeding difficulties and food aversions.

  • Person Centred Practice (Specialist Teacher)
Gain an insight into person centred practice, understand the key principles and discover how to write a one page profile. Share a common language and good practice.

Early Years Drop-In Surgery- Come and meet a range of professionals from health, education, social care and the third sector who will be on hand at the end of the training day to answer any queries, questions and give general advice.
